TruckTally

About TruckTally

TruckTally is an independent reference for American truck specifications — towing capacity, payload, bolt patterns, tire fitment and recall history. It exists because these numbers are published every year by manufacturers and regulators, and then buried in 40-page PDFs organised by axle ratio, which is how a question with a documented answer ends up being argued about in a forum thread from 2016.

What we cover today

Coverage is uneven on purpose, and we say so on every page. Complaint and recall data is pulled automatically from the federal database, so it covers everything. Towing and wheel figures are transcribed by hand from manufacturer guides, which is slow, so that coverage is deeper but narrower. The finder tells you exactly what exists for your truck rather than sending you to an empty page.

How we work

Three rules the site holds itself to:

The methodology page goes through each data source in detail, including what it does and does not cover.

Corrections

If a figure here disagrees with the certification label in your door jamb, your door jamb is right and we want to know. Owner corrections are the most valuable feedback we get, because you have the truck in front of you and we have a table. Tell us what is wrong and the fix flows through to every page built from that data.

How this site makes money

We intend to fund TruckTally with display advertising. No advertiser has any influence over the figures we publish, we do not take payment to list or omit a vehicle, and we do not accept sponsored posts or paid links in the data. If that ever changes it will be disclosed here first.

Independence

Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Stellantis, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, or any other manufacturer. Product names and model designations are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here for identification only.

Your data

There are no accounts and no tracking. The “my garage” feature stores trucks in your browser's local storage and nothing else leaves your device. See the privacy policy for the specifics, including what happens when you decode a VIN.
